I am looking to identify the typefaces on this 1898 prospectus from Scheltema & Holkema’s Boekhandel, designed by Theo Nieuwenhuis. In particular, I would like to know the sans-serif used for the title (EEN LIEFDE), and the serif typeface used for the author and body text.
The serif typeface looks a lot like Bookman (1901) to me, but with some differences, including:
- a — curved up spur, more gracious drop-shaped bowl, more open aperture
- e — smaller eye, more closed aperture
The sans-serif is reminiscent of Figgins Standard/Sans, which Nick Shinn states is based on an 1836 specimen of the Figgins foundry.
