Given the age of the original sign, not likely to be a typeface. Here’s an article from PRINT magazine about the signage of Greenwich Village in general, and Village Cigars in particular. When they wanted to recreate the signage for a minuture of the store, they had to commision a redrawing of the main sign—no commercial typeface could replicate it.
