A client wants me to recreate this and I really don't want to trace it. I don't know the typeface but I think it's an old standard. I just need to type the same word "SPHERICS" to match exactly.

I can’t find any evidence that the outline, shadow and distressing are part of the type.

Bookman Medium seems to be the base font. Outline it and create a drop shadow with the appropriate offset, and you’ll be quite close.
